Observation:
The point of the observation section is to make note of things that are interesting to you from the verse(s) you've just written down and to put the verse(s) in context of what is happening in the Bible. What do you think the verse(s) meant in their original context? With this in mind, ask questions: who is the author writing to?, what do I see here?, where is this happening?, when is this happening?, why is this being written?, and so what? This leads to application.
Application:
For the application, ask yourself "how does this verse apply to my life or the things that I see around me at the moment?" Personalize what you have read, by asking yourself how it applies to your life right now. Perhaps it is instruction, encouragement, revelation of a new promise, or corrections for a particular area of your life. Write out how the Scripture can apply to you today.
Prayer:
This is the area where you should ask the Holy Spirit, "What do you want me to do with this?"...and then surrender to God and do it. Write a short prayer pertaining to the Scripture or your observations or application. This can be as simple as asking God to help you use this Scripture. Remember that prayer is a two way conversation. Make sure to take time and listen to God... then write out what He says to you.
